Unique hue data for colour appearance models. Part II: Chromatic adaptation transform

Abstract: Unique hue settings of 185 observers under three room-lighting conditions were used to evaluate the accuracy of full and mixed chromatic adaptation transform models of CIECAM02 in terms of unique hue reproduction. Perceptual hue shifts in CIECAM02 were evaluated for both models with no clear difference using the current Commission Internationale de l'E´clairage (CIE) recommendation for mixed chromatic adaptation ratio. Using our large dataset of unique hue data as a benchmark, an optimised parameter is propose… Show more

“…Table 4 summarizes the intra-and inter-observer variations variations, as characterized using the hue angle, for each unique hue. It can be observed that the inter-observer variations were generally twice of the intra-observer variations irrespective the unique hues, which was similar to the findings of Xiao et al 2,16 The inter-observer variations of unique red and blue were larger under the sources with a larger D uv (i.e., chromaticities further away from the blackbody locus), especially under the 2700 K sources. No systematic changes were found to the other unique hues.…”

“…In our previously published experiments, 36 coloured stimuli were displayed on a calibrated cathode ray tube (CRT) display and, using a hue‐selection task, the unique hue loci were determined by 185 observers, each with three replications for each of the 36 stimuli (3 saturations × 3 lightness levels × 4 hues). Each unique hue setting was recorded as CIE XYZ tristimulus values and then transformed using the CIECAM02 colour appearance model.…”

“…Besides, the studies demonstrated that cultural context and psychological aspects too have signiicant inluence on the perception of colour [23,26]. As a result, the application of colourimetry started to spread in diferent areas and many researches experimented various inluences and conditions on colour perception [27][28][29], including the studies of the colour appearance models [30].…”
