Unintentional Passive Islanding Detection and Prevention Method with Reduced Non-Detection Zones

Abstract: Islanding detection and prevention are involved in tandem with the rise of large- and small-scale distribution grids. To detect islanded buses, either the voltage or the frequency variation has been considered in the literature. A modified passive islanding detection strategy that coordinates the V-F (voltage–frequency) index was developed to reduce the non-detection zones (NDZs), and an islanding operation is proposed in this article. Voltage and frequency were measured at each bus to check the violation limi… Show more

“…In modern energy networks, renewable power-based distributed generations (DGs) are more prevalent near the consumer premises to meet the load demand. These DGs include photovoltaic units, wind farms, fuel cells, and mini hydro plants [1][2][3][4]. The operation of these DGs is only efficient and reliable in grid-tide mode when the main-grid supply is on tap.…”

“…It is important to distinguish that resilience improvement and resilience planning predominantly center around reinforcing and constructing power grids before disasters occur [5][6][7]. Conversely, fault recovery concentrates on utilizing undamaged power lines and equipment to achieve maximum load recovery through optimization of power network topology and related strategies [8][9][10][11].…”

“…Consequently, the incorporation of renewable-energy-source-based ADGs into a distribution network has very much common [1]. The availability of ADGs and their favourable effects on the environment make them the consumer end's first choice in comparison to conventional electricity generation resources [2][3][4][5]. Moreover, the ADG units are divided into two categories:…”
