Unifying “soft” and “hard” diffractive exclusive vector meson production and deeply virtual Compton scattering

Abstract: A Pomeron model applicable to both "soft" and "hard" processes is suggested and tested against the high-energy data from virtual photon-induced reactions. The Pomeron is universal, containing two terms, a "soft" and a "hard" one, whose relative weight varies withV , where Q 2 is the virtuality of the incoming photon and M V is the mass of the produced vector particle. With a small number of adjustable parameters, the model fits all available data on vector meson production and deeply virtual Compton scattering… Show more

“…As shown in Ref. [6], to obtain the ψ(2S) cross section one needs also an appropriate normalization factor, which is expected to be close to f ψ(2S) = m ψ(2S) Γ(ψ(2S)→e + e − ) m J/ψ Γ(J/ψ→e + e − ) = 0.5 . According to a fit of σ γ p→p+ψ(2S) (W ) σ γ p→p+J/ψ (W ) to the data [10] with a two-component Pomeron model, the value f ψ(2S) = 0.4 is reasonable.…”

“…A prediction from Fazio et al [13] (FFJS) uses a two component Pomeron model to predict the cross sections for vector meson production. A normalisation factor of f −1 ψ(2S) = 0.45 ensures that the ψ(2S) cross section is the same as for other vector mesons at a given value of W , t and Q 2 + M 2 V (i.e.…”

“…The wave functions of the J/ψ(1S ) and ψ(2S ) have been calculated according to the procedure developed previously [23,24] and the low-x inclusive HERA data have been used to constrain the cc-dipole cross section. Fazio et al [25] (FFJS) use a two-component Pomeron model to predict the cross sections for vector-meson production. A normalisation factor of f −1 ψ(2S ) = 0.45 ensures that the value of the ψ(2S ) cross section is the same as for the other vector mesons at the same values of W, t and…”
