Uniform silver nanoparticles on tunable porous N‐doped carbon nanospheres for aerobic oxidative synthesis of aryl nitriles from benzylic alcohols

Abstract: Tunable N‐doped carbon nanospheres from sucrose as carbon source and Tris(2‐aminoethyl)amine (TAEA) as nitrogen source by a simple and easily reproducible method were prepared. It was demonstrated that the tunable N‐doping of carbon spheres could be realized by altering the ratio of TAEA in the raw materials. The content of doped nitrogen, surface area, pore volume and pore size of carbon nanospheres were increased with the increasing of TAEA amount in the hydrothermal process. Prepared N‐doped carbon nanosphe… Show more

“…Compared with m-SeNC, Ag/m-SeNC exhibits four diffraction peaks at 2θ = 38.40 , 44.58 , 64.99 , and 77.79 in the XRD pattern (Figure 1b), which belong to the reflections of (1 1 1), (2 0 0), (2 2 0), and (3 1 1) that fit well with facecentered cubic Ag NPs. [47,48] This result confirms that Ag NPs were successfully anchored on the surface of the support. The mean crystalline size of Ag NPs is $12.98 nm, calculated using the Scherrer equation [D = Kλ/(βcosθ)] from the broadness of the (111) peak.…”

“…The specific gas chromatography (GC) analysis method was as follows: the column temperature was set as 130 °C, the heating rate was 12 °C/min to 250 °C and held for 4 min, the injection port temperature was 240 °C, and the temperature of the FID detector was 270 °C. The products were confirmed by 1 H and 13 C NMR spectroscopies (Figures S1 and S2). The carbon balances were determined to be higher than >99%.…”

“…Various catalysts have been explored for the direct oxidative cyanation of alcohol to nitrile. Satisfied activity and selectivity have been achieved over noble metal-based catalysts such as Au, Ag, Pt, Ru, Rh, and Pd. , However, noble-metal-based catalysts are limited in their large-scale application for the high cost and lack of abundance. Transition metal-based catalysts, thus, catch wide attention for the titled reaction, such as the Cu-, Co-, and Fe-based catalysts. In these catalytic processes, ammonia or HCOONH 4 is employed as the amine source while molecular oxygen is used as the oxidative regent.…”

“…Heterogeneous catalysis is desirable because of the ease with which the components of the reaction can be separated and because of the reusability of the catalysts. While several heterogeneous catalysts based on ruthenium, gold, lanthanum, platinum, or silver have been reported, examples of those based on first-row transition metals as earth-abundant metals are limited . In 2014, Beller and co-workers developed cobalt-oxide- or iron-oxide-based nanocatalysts supported on nitrogen-doped carbon for aerobic ammoxidation of alcohols to nitriles; however, relatively high catalyst loading (>4 mol %) was required .…”
