Abstract: Bats are known reservoirs of Nipah virus (NiV) and some filoviruses and also appear likely to harbor the evolutionary progenitors of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV), severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2), and Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV). For example, in Bangladesh, Hassan et al (2020) used a standard knowledge and values survey to understand community perceptions and knowledge of bats as it relates to the transmission of Nipah virus.
