Introspective Meditation before Seeking Pleasurable Activities as a Stress Reduction Tool among College Students: A Multi-Theory Model-Based Pilot Study

In the realm of behavioral interventions, a combined approach of yoga and a cognitive-behavioral strategy in the form of introspective meditation (manan-dhyana) may offer benefits as a stress management tool. This pilot study focuses on introspective meditation performed before seeking pleasurable activities, which is a self-reflection about whether to pursue a goal that will bring sensory pleasure in life. A non-probability sample of college students was recruited from a mid-sized Southern University of the United States using a 52-items web-based survey built in Qualtrics. Univariate, bivariate, and multivariate statistics were used to analyze data. Of total 65 students, only 21.5% students reported being engaged in the introspective meditation. The sample constituted predominantly females (75.4%), White (64.6%), and undergraduate students (87.7%). The proportions of anxiety, depression, and moderate/high stress were 50.8%, 40.0%, 86.1% respectively. In the hierarchical regression for initiation, the final model explained nearly 21.1% of variance in initiating introspective meditation among participants (n = 51) who had not been practicing it. With each unit increment in subscales of initiation (i.e., changes in physical environment), the conditional mean for initiating introspective meditation behavior increased by 0.373 units. In the hierarchical regression for sustenance, the final model explained nearly 50.5% of variance in sustaining introspective meditation behavior among participants (n = 51) who had not been practicing it. With each unit increment in subscales of sustenance (i.e., emotional transformation), the conditional mean for sustaining introspective meditation behavior increased by 0.330 units. This study can pave a way for designing interventions for college students to promote introspective meditation directed toward seeking pleasurable activities before engaging in them. This has implications for the reduction of stress as well as a preemptive measure for sexual risk-taking, indulgence in maladaptive behaviors such as smoking, vaping, alcohol, and substance use.

This study aims to investigate the effects of working capital management on firm profitability of listed manufacturing companies in Malaysia. Design/methodology/approach: This study uses account payables, inventory turnover, account receivables, cash conversion cycle, firm size, growth, leverage and current ratio as accounting information variables. Secondary data was collected for all variables over a ten-year period, i.e. 2009 to 2018 and was obtained from the annual report published via Bursa Malaysia (Malaysian Stock Exchange) official website. Data was analyzed by using IBM SPSS Statistics Subscription software. Descriptive statistics, correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis were utilized in this study. Findings: The results revealed that inventory turnover in days, account receivables and firm size have a positive significant relationship with manufacturing firms' profitability, while account payables and cash conversion cycle have a positive insignificant relationship. Research limitations/implications:The sample size is too small for any generalization. A mixed method approach in the future could contribute to a holistic finding. Practical implications: Since these variables contained significant influence on firm profitability, it is recommended that listed manufacturing companies should prepare a complete and timely manner of accounting information based on the regulation context in Malaysia. Social implications: It provides an empirical evidence on the importance of working capital management amongst the manufacturing concerns in Malaysia and its impact on its business sustainability. Originality/value: This study contributes to the limited research on working capital management involving manufacturing companies in Malaysia.

The aim of the study was to examine the relationship between anger control and parental attitudes in adolescents in terms of self-disclosure tool. In addition, within the scope of the research, the demographic variables of the sample of adolescents' anger control, parental attitude and self-disclosure variable; gender;class level, family income level, family attitude. The scale, developed by G. Steele et al., examined the correlations between other subscales to evaluate the proposed structure of the Anger Expression Scale for Adolescents (PEAS) in healthy and adolescent samples. Anger Control Scale for Adolescents is a 26-item measurement tool that includes a four-point Likert response format (almost never, sometimes, often, and almost always). Anger Control Scale items for Adolescents; It was created by researchers in collaboration with a group of pediatric psychologists and psychology experts. Based on a review of the available literature on adolescent anger, including available anger expression scales, a list of potential items for reflecting trait anger and anger was created. The Turkish version of the scale was applied to 333 high school students in the adaptation study of the Self Disclosure Scale (PSS) developed by Kahn and Hessling . Within the scope of the scale adaptation study, reliability was examined with item analysis corrected item-total score correlation and confirmatory factor analysis. In the confirmatory factor analysis for the scale, it was observed that the one-dimensional model fitted well (x²=116.05, sd =50, p=0.00, RMSEA=.063, NFI=.97, NNFI=.97, CFI=.98, IFI=.98 , RFI=.95, GFI=.94, and SRMR=.45). The reliability coefficient of the scale was found to be .86. As a result of the analysis, it was concluded that the Turkish version of the Self Disclosure Scale was valid and reliable in the sample group applied. Reliability coefficient of the scale (Cronbach alpha) within the scope of the research. It was found to be 65. The scale prepared by Polat (1986) measures the authoritarian and democratic attitudes of parents. The scale was applied by Polat to a group of 72 students with an interval of 15 days, and the coefficients of invariance calculated with the Pearson Product Moments technique were determined as (.83) for mothers and (.88) for fathers. The scale consists of a total of 26 items, including the democratic 14-item authoritarian dimension with 12 items to evaluate the attitudes of the students' parents towards them. In the study, the descriptive survey model was applied from the quantitative research design. Descriptive survey model; It is a research model that aims to reflect the situation that continues to exist in the past or in the current period . In this study, the relationship between the variables will be examined with Pearson correlation. In addition, the scores of the predictive variables were obtained by subtracting their mean values from their mean values in order not to encounter the problem of multicollinearity with regression analysis . Interaction effect will be achieved. Before the regression analysis, the data will be examined in terms of the assumptions required for the regression analysis. Parametric and non -parametric analyzes will be made in the SPSS analysis program, as a result of whether the data can show normal distribution or not. Findings to be obtained will be discussed in the context of the literature.
