“…Different models have been proposed to explain the distribution of this volcanic belt. The western margin can be explained by eastward subduction of a branch of the Paleo-Tethys under the Indochina composite terrane (Morley, 2018) or associated back-arc basin development (Qian et al, 2016;Rossignol et al, 2016). In NW Laos, the magmatism was attributed to the subduction under the Viet-Lao terrane of oceanic crust attached to the Sino-Vietnam composite terrane (Kamvong et al, 2014), possibly referring to the Song Ma oceanic crust.…”

“…2D seismic sections (Line A-Line D) are interpreted in this study. Morley, 2018). The pre-existing Permian slope-to-basin rocks were extensively folded, thrust, inverted, uplifted, and eroded forming the N-S trending Phetchabun Fold Belt (Sone and Metcalfe, 2008).…”

“…The Sibumasu Block was separated from the Gondwana during the Late Carboniferous to Early Permian, evidenced from rift-related basaltic magmatism dated to 310-280 Ma (Liu et al 2020). Morley (2018) proposed that the Sibumasu Block comprised a ribbon continent, with the Mae Sariang Group being deposited along the rift trough and extensional basin that were generated by crustal thinning during the Permian. This scenario involving a lack of igneous activity within the Sibumasu Block during this period supports the observed lack of Permian to Triassic zircons in the Mae Sariang Group.…”

“…The Inthanon Zone is interpreted to represent nappes of Palaeo-Tethyan rocks thrust westward over a marginal part of the Sibumasu Block (Ueno & Hisada, 2001;Barber et al 2011;Morley, 2018;Mangkhemthong et al 2019). This mélange is also thrust over Carboniferous sedimentary rocks (Hara et al 2009).…”
