Understanding Industrial Land Development on Rural-Urban Land Transformation of Jakarta Megacity’s Outer Suburb

Abstract: After decentralization, there was massive development in Jakarta megacity’s outer suburbs (JMOS), especially in Bekasi and Tangerang regencies, marked by large-scale industrial estate/park (LSIEP) and followed by new town developments. However, this process led to the emergence of "chaotic" urban-rural land patterns. This study sought to identify the extent to which LSIEP development has affected rural-urban land transformation (RULT). The primary data were land use/cover (LUC) data from 2005, 2015, and 2020 a… Show more

“…Second, the change in land use in the new city area is closely related to the implementation of the South Sulawesi provincial government policy towards the urban spatial integration of the Mamminasata Metropolitan. That is, the main driving factor for land use change is human activity guided by policies and the degree of land use change is positively correlated with the level of regional, social and economic development (Zheng et al, 2022;Kurnia et al, 2022). The urban spatial integration has an impact on population mobility and its effect on increasing the flow of goods and passengers transport.…”

“…Introducing the land expansion analysis strategy (LEAS) and CA based on muti-type random patch seeds (CARS) effectively solves the above problem [28]. At the same time, the PLUS model also has the advantages of high simulation accuracy and fast data processing and has been used by many scholars in the future study of LUSO [29][30][31]. Finally, although theories, models, methods, and research fields of LUSO based on LC scenarios are constantly enriched and improved, from the perspective of simulation evaluation, ecological benefit consideration after LUSO is still lacking [32].…”
