This study provides a Twitter content analysis of tweets by Houston-based Division I college sport programs during Hurricane Harvey. A content analysis was performed on the tweets appearing on the main intercollegiate athletics Twitter pages of University of Houston, Houston Baptist University, Prairie View A&M University, Rice University, and Texas Southern University in response to Hurricane Harvey. The researchers based their study on grounded theory informed by a study conducted by Inoue and Havard (2015). While this study examined tweets rather than newspaper and magazine articles like Inoue and Havard (2015), this study confirmed the theme findings in Inoue and Havard (2015) applied well in a Twitter social media setting as well. New themes that were added by the researchers in the current study proved to be applicable.

Streszczenie: Głównym celem badań było określenie zakresu, w jakim organizacje pożytku publicznego wykorzystują serwis społecznościowy Facebook w zarządzaniu relacjami z interesariuszami w dobie pandemii COVID-19. Brak konieczności fizycznej interakcji z odbiorcą organizacyjnych komunikatów oznacza, że rola mediów społecznościowych w sytuacjach kryzysowych wydaje się szczególnie ważna. Podmiotem badań była specyficzna grupa organizacji non profit, tj. tylko takie, które posiadały status organizacji pożytku publicznego. Badania przeprowadzono dla dwóch okresów, tj. lutego 2020 roku, czyli stanu sprzed pandemii COVID-19, i w szczytowym okresie jej trwania, tj. w lutym 2021 roku. Uzyskane rezultaty wskazują, że potencjał Facebooka w kryzysowym momencie funkcjonowania badanych organizacji został wykorzystany tylko w niewielkim stopniu.

PurposeThis investigation's purpose is to compare coverage of the corporate social responsibility (CSR) behaviors of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) and Major League Soccer (MLS). The goals are (1) to extend CSR analyses beyond organizational reports and (2) to compare coverage of professional sports teams' CSR behaviors across genders.Design/methodology/approachSpecifically, this quantitative content analysis compared local newspaper coverage of the socially responsible behaviors of the three NWSL and MLS teams owned and operated by the same organizations in Portland, Houston and Orlando.FindingsThe NWSL teams received significantly less and more negative coverage than the MLS teams. Moreover, the NWSL coverage was more individualistic, more focused on ethics and quoted individual team players more frequently, while the MLS coverage was more collective, focused on philanthropy and quoted team organization members more frequently.Research limitations/implicationsAlthough intentionally based on a sample of six teams, this study's results suggest the biases in coverage of women's sports teams extend beyond the playing field to their corporate social responsibility behaviors, reporting and news coverage.Originality/valueAs one of the first studies to analyze media coverage of professional sports team's CSR activities and to compare their socially responsible behaviors across genders, the results provide compelling implications for CSR scholars and practitioners, especially in the sports industry.
