Underlay Cognitive Radio with Full or Partial Channel Quality Information

Abstract: Underlay cognitive radios (UCRs) allow a secondary user to enter a primary user's spectrum through intelligent utilization of multiuser channel quality information (CQI) and sharing of codebook. The aim of this work is to study two-user Gaussian UCR systems by assuming the full or partial knowledge of multiuser CQI. Key contribution of this work is motivated by the fact that the full knowledge of multiuser CQI is not always available. We first establish a location-aided UCR model where the secondary user is as… Show more

“…or improving PU's transmission by applying sophisticated signal processing and coding. As stated in [23,24], such assumption is possible if both the PU and the SU are either using a uniform standard for communication based on publicized codebooks or broadcasting their own codebooks periodically. In particular, to improve the spatial diversity order, the technique of relaying has been introduced into CRN.…”

“…The problem of optimal transmission in underlay cognitive radio networks, under various combinations of average or peak transmit and/or interference power constraints, have been studied in [7]- [10]. Optimal transmission schemes to maximize the ergodic rates are reported in [7], [9], [10], while [8] presents some limited analytical results on delaylimited and outage capacities obtained by ignoring the primary interference and transmit power constraints, and subject to maximum interference constraints only.…”

To protect the primary transmission, the secondary transmission is subject to a peak interference constraint at the primary receiver:…”
