Ultrasound irradiation based in-situ synthesis of star-like Tragacanth gum/zinc oxide nanoparticles on cotton fabric

Abstract: Application of natural biopolymers for green and safe synthesis of zinc oxide nanoparticles on the textiles is a novel and interesting approach. The present study offers the use of natural biopolymer, Tragacanth gum, as the reducing, stabilizing and binding agent for in-situ synthesis of zinc oxide nanoparticles on the cotton fabric. Ultrasonic irradiation leads to clean and easy synthesis of zinc oxide nanoparticles in short-time at low-temperature. FESEM/EDX, XRD, FT-IR spectroscopy, DSC, photocatalytic acti… Show more

“…ZnO also can be utilized in ointments, lotions, and sunscreens to protect skin from UV illumination due to it serves as the broadest spectrum UVA (315–400 nm) and UVB (280–315 nm) reflector . Recently, there are numerous studies investigating the use of ZnO NPs as antibacterial agent on diverse fields such as food , textile , and biomedical applications . Devanand Venkatasubbu et al have applied ZnO on food pathogens namely, Salmonella typhi , Klebsiella pneumoniae , and Shigella flexneri for investigating its antibacterial performance .…”

“…ZnO is susceptible to agglomerate in water due to high polarity of water leading to deposition . Thus, ZnO has been incorporated with many capping agents on synthesis of ZnO nanocomposite coated on textile such as multiamide compound , sulfated β‐cyclodextrin , hexamethyltriethyylene tetramine , chitosan , acacia , PVP , silica , Tragacanth gum , cellulose , polymer diallyl dimethyl ammonium chloride‐allyl glycidyl ether‐methacrylic , polystyrene‐ block ‐poly(acrylic acid) , hydrogel , and sodium alginate .…”
