This study aimed to evaluate the potentially toxic effects of trace elements in the blood of Iraqi medical radiography workers by analyzing them through GF-AAS. The study involved 50 male blood radiography workers from the medical imaging field at Al-Shatrah General Hospital in Thi-Qar City, Iraq. All workers were aged between 35-50 years and had worked for less than 10 years. The study compared these workers with 50 healthy men. The study found a significant increase in the levels of Cu, Pb, Cd, and Ca among radiography workers compared to the healthy control group, while Zn and Se levels decreased significantly. Moreover, Specificity and confidence interval (95%) were estimated via the receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC). The study provided conclusive evidence of disturbances in the levels of trace elements in the blood of radiographer workers, which makes them more susceptible to many diseases because of their radiation exposure. which portends the more preventive measures of radiation. The linear range of Cd, Cu, Zn, Se and Pb in human serum were obtained 0.2-6.0 µg dL-1, 6.0-200 µg dL-1, 8.0-200 µg dL-1, 10-250 µg dL-1, 4-120 µg dL-1 by GF-AAS after dilution samples with DW up to 20 (n=10, RSD< 5%).

In this study, a novel synthesis adsorbent, 1-(3-aminopropyl)-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate functionlized on multiwall carbon nanotubes ([Apmim][PF6]-MWCNTs, IL@MWCNTS) was used for nickel/lead (Ni/Pb) extraction and determination by dispersive ionic liquid micro solid-phase extraction (DIL-μ-SPE) coupled to electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry (ET-AAS). After dilution of 20 mg of IL@MWCNTS in 200 μL of acetone, the mixture was injected to 10 mL of human serum/urine samples at pH of 8.0. After sonication for 5 min, the Ni(II) / Pb(II) were extracted by ionic liquid phase and then centrifuged for 2.5 min. The upper liquid phase set aside and Ni(II) / Pb(II) loaded in adsorbent were back-extracted by acidic solution at pH=2-3. Finally, the concentration of total nickel and lead was determined by ET-AAS. By optimizing, the limit of detection, linear range, and enrichment factor for nickel and lead were obtained (0.05 μg L−1; 0.1 μg L−1), (0.2-5.8 μg L−1; 0.4-30 μg L−1) and 24.7; 5.1, respectively (RSD less than 5%). Also, the capacity absorption of IL@MWCNTS for nickel and lead ions were achieved 149.3 mg g-1 and 162.5 mg g-1, respectively. The DIL-μ-SPE procedure was validated for nickel and lead extraction by spiking of real samples and ICP-MS analyzer.

The anodic stripping voltammetry (ASV) was investigated to determine total mercury in solid samples using a gold electrode. The mercury was deposited on the gold electrode in a preconcentration step. The oxidation peak of mercury was irreversible. The optimal conditions of the procedure were found to be as follows: 0.05 mol L−1 HCl solution, deposition potential −0.5 V vs. Ag/AgCl/KCls, deposition time 40 s, and sweep rate 0.04 V s−1. Under the optimal conditions, the peak current showed a linear dependence on Hg2+ concentration in the range from 0.01 to 0.1 mg l−1. The detection limit and quantification limit were 4.28 µg L−1 and 12.98 µg L−1, respectively. The mean recovery and relative standard deviation were 91.2% and 2.4% (n = 9). The procedure was successfully applied for determining total mercury in samples collected from Hanoi light bulb warehouse—The Rang Dong Light Source and Vacuum Flask JSC. The results were compared with cold vapor atomic absorption spectrometry (CV-AAS).
