Ultrafast Wavenumber Linear-Step-Swept Source Based on Synchronous Lightwave Synthesized Frequency Sweeper

Abstract: An ultrafast wavenumber linear-step-swept source based on a synchronous lightwave synthesized frequency sweeper (SLSFS) is demonstrated. A multi-wavelength source is used as a seed source. In SLSFS, the swept range of different wavelength components is precisely controlled by a stable programmable radio frequency signal applied on a dualparallel Mach-Zehnder modulator instead of a conventional wavelength filter. The identical frequency shifting step of all the wavelength components promises high linear sweepin… Show more

“…Various solutions have been developed to overcome this issue. Solutions on hardware include linearwavenumber spectrometers for spectral domain OCT (SD-OCT) [3][4][5][6] and an external k-trigger used for swept-source OCT (SS-OCT) system [7][8][9][10][11] . On one hand these devices require a strict and regular calibration, on the other hand, additional hardware devices undoubtedly increase the cost of the SS-OCT system.…”

“…Spectral calibration methods have, therefore, always been a primary concern. Numerous approaches were demonstrated by using complex numerical data resampling methods and using bulky optical hardware methods due to unavailability of supremely well-designed spectrometers [25][26][27][28][29].…”

“…In our previous work, we proposed a parallel multi-wavelength swept light source [15] in which multiple seed lights were injecting into the RFSL at the same time and realized significant expansion of the sweeping bandwidth. In that method, the parallel injection of multi-channel seed light is beneficial to the signal light consuming more inversion particles, which alleviates the saturation of erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA), to some extent, caused by ASE accumulation.…”
