Ultrafast real-time vibronic coupling of a breather soliton intrans-polyacetylene using a laser pulse with few cycles

Abstract: Simultaneous modulations of both frequencies and amplitudes of C-C and C = C stretching vibration modes, due to dynamical coupling to a breather soliton, in trans-polyacetylene was successfully time resolved. The frequency shifts of both modes were in good agreement with a simulation based on the Su-Schrieffer-Heeger model. It was found that the intensities of transition dipoles changed due to the breather, whereas transition energies were dominantly modulated by C = C stretching mode as recent theoretical wor… Show more

“…In spite of its simplicity, the SSH Hamiltonian is remarkably successful in capturing the electronic structure of PA, its photoinduced vibronic dynamics and the rich photophysics of polarons, breathers and kinks [1,[29][30][31]. This model is often used to study the dynamical features caused by strong electron-ion couplings [1,32,33].…”

“…[14 -16] High-pressure Raman studies are useful in discerning the existence of phase transitions and soft modes associated with compression of the matrix and/or the crystal. The present high-pressure vibrational study is also relevant to reports of coherent electron-lattice vibrations [9,17] and vibronic coupling dynamics of soliton modes [18,19] in NPA.…”

“…The frequencies of these two modes are nearly equal to the overtones of 1111 cm -1 , which may affect the dynamics of the breather. Because both amplitude modulation (AM) and frequency modulation (FM) can affect the vibrational amplitude of the single and double C-C bonds [30], we also calculated the ratios of the amplitude of FM to that of AM; they were about 0.11 and 0.03 for the 1111 and 1343 cm -1 modes, respectively. Similar feature is found for the positive absorbance change, as shown in Fig.…”
