Uji Efek Antifungi Ekstrak Daun Biduri (Calotropis Gigantea L.) Terhadap Pertumbuhan Jamur Trichophyton Mentagrophytes

Abstract: The leaf of biduri (Calotropis gigantea L.) is one of the plants that can be used as antifungal. Biduri leaves are used as antifungals based on the chemicals contained in them such as tannins, flavonoid saponins and polyphenols. The fungus Trichophyton mentagrophytes can cause a skin disease characterized by the appearance of circular and scaly patches or small bubbles known as Tinea or ringworm. This fungus has a habitat (especially in tropical and wet climates) in soil, humans and animals. This study aims to… Show more

“…Tannins are dynamic compounds functioning as antifungals (Safrida, Mardiana & Husna, 2021). These antifungal compounds work by neutralizing enzymes involved in fungal invasion, damaging fungal cell membranes, inhibiting fungal enzyme systems, hence, they interfere with hyphae tip arrangement, and affecting nucleic acid and protein synthesis.…”

“…This plant is commonly found in dry season areas, such as grasslands, mountains, active volcanic foothills, and beaches [6,7]. Aceh Province is one of the areas in Indonesia where C. gigantea plants grow wild and are considered weeds or nuisance plants [8,9]. Even though this plant contains many active compounds or secondary metabolites that have many health benefits [10,11].…”

“…The content of secondary metabolites in C. gigantea has differences, which are due to geographical factors, growing environment conditions, and genetics [18]. Several studies report that phytochemical screening of C. gigantea plant extracts has different results based on the different locations in Aceh province, such as geothermal areas [9], mountainous [13], and coastal areas [8]. Therefore, this study will conduct phytochemical screening of C. gigantea plant extracts that grow in the coastal area, the location of Alue Naga beach, Banda Aceh city, Aceh Province -Indonesia.…”
