“…Rather than viewing a child's resistance as a problem, resistance can be viewed as a contribution worthy of respect and worthwhile hearing (Qvarsell 2011). Corsaro (2009) described resistance against the adult world as a specific theme in children's peer cultures.…”

“…Following this, it is of great importance to focus on relations among children and adults when it comes to democratic participation, as most Norwegian researchers who engage in this area do (Bae, 2009;Børhaug, 2010;Kjørholt, 2010;Grindland, 2011;Jansen & Fennefoss, 2012;Ødegaard, 2012). The point of departure for my research is relations among peers, not only to identify more varied conditions for children's participation and to contribute to research from another angle, but also because these relations seem to be of importance for children (Corsaro, 2003;Søbstad, 2004;Østrem et al, 2009).…”

“…I will then discuss the possible consequences when emphasizing rules and routines in light of Elias' perspectives on civilization as a phenomenon. Finally, I will present research that illustrates how to be open for children's active participation to a greater extent (Ahlmann, 2010;Andersen and Holm, 2013;Bae, 2009;Bjørgen, 2009;Brunosson, 2012;Grindland, 2011;Holm and Kristensen, 2012;Iversen and Sabinsky, 2011;Johansson and Pramling Samuleson, 2001;Smidt, 2012). The research I refer to is mainly from ECCs in the Nordic countries.…”
