Übergangsmetall‐Carbin‐Komplexe, XXXIX: Synthese, Struktur und elektrochemisches Verhalten von trans‐Halogenotetracarbonyl(ferrocenylcarbin)‐Komplexen des Chroms, Molybdäns und Wolframs

Abstract: The reaction of pentacarbonyl(ethoxyferrocenylcarbene) complexes of chromium, molybdenum, and tungsten with boron-and aluminium halides (MX,; X=Cl, Br) at low temperatures yields trans-halogenotetracarbonyl(ferroceny1carbyne) complexes (1 -5). The analogous iodo complexes (6, 7) are obtained by a halogen exchange reaction of the trans-bromotetracarbonyl(ferroceny1-carbyne) complexes with lithium iodide. The results of spectroscopic and electrochemical measurements of the novel complexes together with the X-ray… Show more

“…95 The H2,5 and H3,4 resonances were not specifically assigned in the ferrocenyl carbyne complexes (7). 96 We were not able to unequivocally assign the ferrocenyl resonances of 2-4, even with the extensive application of 2-D NMR techniques. We favor the assignment of the lower field triplets of 2-4 to protons H5,8 and the higher field signal to H6,7, based on analogy to the R-ferrocenylcarbenium ion 5.…”

“…95 Fischer and co-workers derived similar Hammett σ values from NMR and electrochemical data for compounds 7. 96 By using Connor's empirical relationships, we find σ P values of þ0.75, þ0.52, þ0.46, and þ0.49 and σ R values of þ1.00, þ1.16, þ1.03, and þ1.06 for the [M(C 3 H)(L) 2 (Cp)] þ substituents in compounds 2a, 2b, 3, and 4, respectively. 97 Both the 1 H shifts themselves and the derived Hammett σ values make it clear that the [M(C 3 H)(L) 2 (Cp)] þ substituents are strongly electron-withdrawing, especially through the delocalized π-system rather than through inductive effects.…”
