Pyrylium-und Benzopyryliumverbindungen rnit a-oder y-stlndigen CH8-Gruppen kondensieren sich in saurer Losung rnit aromatischen Aldehyden unter Bildung von Styrylderivaten I ) , zeigen also eine ahnliche Reaktionsfshigkeit der Methylgruppen wie a-bzw. y-Methyl-pyridin-und -chinolinderivate. Da bei der Konstitutionsermittlung des Dracorhodins') zu entscheiden war, ob die CH,-Gruppe dimes Benzopyranolfarbstoffes am C4 des Heteroringes steht, haben wir bei einigen Benzopyryliumverbindungen gepruft, ob sich die Kondensation rnit aromatischen Aldehyden zum Nachweis von C,-und C4-Methylgruppen verwenden la&. Das ist moglich, wenn man die rnit Bicarbonat freigemachten Basen spektroskopisch untersucht, denn die Kondensation zu Styrylbasen gibt sich durch Verschiebung der Absorptionsbanden ins langwellige Gebiet zu erkennen.Vie1 empfindlicher und charakteristischer gestaltet sich der Nachweis, wenn die zu prufende Benzopyryliurnverbindung als Base oder Salz in Pyridin mit o-Ameisensaureester e r w a m t wird. Die Anwesenheit aoder y-sandiger CH,-Gruppen gibt sich dann, wie wir an einer Reihe von Benzopyryliumverbindungen feststellen konnten, durch eine intensive Blaufarbung zu erkennen, eine Reaktion, rnit der wir beim Dracorhodin die Abwesenheit einer y-standigen CH,-Gruppe nachgewiesen haben, und die sich bei ahnlichen Konstitutionsfragen mit Erfolg verwenden lassen wird. o-Ameisenester kondensiert sich, wie W. K o n i g gefunden hat'), rnit N-alkylierten 2und 4-Methyl-chinoliniumsalzen und vielen ahnlich gebauten Cyclammoniumsalzen unter Bildung von Cyaninen. In Analogie dazu war anmnehmen, daB die von uns beobachtete Farbreaktion auf einer Bildung cyaninahnlicher Benzopyryliumverbindungen beriiht.
