Two-way beamforming optimization for full-duplex SWIPT systems

Abstract: In this paper, we investigate the problem of tworelay beamforming optimization to maximize the achievable sumrate of a simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) system with a full-duplex (FD) multiple-input multipleoutput (MIMO) amplify-and-forward (AF) relay. In particular, we address the optimal joint design of the receiver power splitting (PS) ratio and the beamforming matrix at the relay given the channel state information (CSI). Our contribution is an iterative algorithm and one-dimensi… Show more

“…As such, the receive PS ratio at all MSs should satisfy 0 < ρ k < 1, as given by the PS ratio constraint. It is easy to see that (18) is non-convex and hard to solve. Thus, we solve this problem in a two-step process.…”

“…Recent advances, however, suggest that full-duplex (FD) communications that allows simultaneous transmission and reception of signals over the same frequency channel is possible [16], [17]. This brings a new opportunity for SWIPT in FD systems [2], [18]. In addition to essentially doubling the bandwidth, FD communications also find additional source of energy in the inherent self-interfering signal.…”

“…Recently, researchers extended the study on SWIPT to relaying networks, in which a wireless powered relay and/or wireless powered sources were considered in a relay system [21][22][23][24]. Specifically, [22] studied a two-way relaying system with two wireless powered sources, whereas [23] investigated a two-way relaying system with a wireless powered relay.…”
