Two new taraxasterol-type triterpenes fromPergularia tomentosagrowing wild in Algeria

Abstract: Two new triterpenes of the taraxasterol skeleton are isolated for the first time form Pergularia tomentosa L. of Algerian origin. The new compounds were named pergularine A and pergularine B. In addition, eight known compounds were isolated from the plant including oleic acid, (9Z,12Z)-octadecadienoic acid, α-amyrin, 3-acetyltaraxasterol, 3-taraxasterol, 16α-hydroxytaraxasterol-3-acetate, 3-epi-micromeric acid, and (9Z,12Z)-octadecadienoic acid glucoside. All known compounds are isolated for the first time fro… Show more

“…Ghalakinoside was reported to be a cytotoxic cardiac glycoside [2], and a potential anticancer drug [2]. We have evaluated the extract of the aerial parts of P. tomentosa as a part of our ongoing search for novel phytochemicals from medicinal plants in Algerian ora (12,13]. Therefore, we reported the presence of a new cardenolide glycoside 1, along with ve other cardenolide glycosides that are already known: calactin 2, 12-hydroxycalotropin 3, 6'-hydroxycalactin 4, galakinoside 5, and uscharidin 6 (14,15].…”
