Two new species of Amphinemura (Plecoptera, Nemouridae) from the southern Qinling Mountains of China, based on male, female and larvae

Abstract: Two new species of the genus Amphinemura, A.albicaudasp. n. and A.dingoideasp. n. from the southern Qinling Mountains, Foping County of Shaanxi Province, western China, are described based on both sexes and the larval stage. The new species are compared with related taxa, and the A.sinensis species group is defined for an Oriental lineage of the genus. Amphinemurasinensis (Wu, 1926) and A.unihamata (Wu, 1973) are reported from Shaanxi for the first time, and the hitherto unknown female of A.unihamata is descri… Show more

“…The substrate is mostly stony and sandy, mixed with silty patches and a moderate amount of debris. Accompanying fauna included two Holarctic genera of mayflies, Baetis (Baetidae) and Ameletus (Ameletidae), as well as the stoneflies Rhopalopsole basinigra Yang & Yang, 1995, Spaeronemoura grandicauda (Wu, 1973, Nemoura sp., and two species recently described from the same area, namely Amphinemura albicauda Li, Mo, Dong, Yang & Murányi, 2018 and Amphinemura dingoidea Li, Mo, Dong, Yang & Murányi, 2018(Li et al 2018.…”

“…On the basis of these two Himalayan species, the two species described herein and a further larva that we recently reported from Shaanxi as Indonemoura sp. (Li et al 2018), there are no distinctive generic character to distinguish Indonemoura larvae from those of Mesonemoura Baumann, 1975. Both genus can be characterised by the presence of single, short cervical gills, posterior row of setae on terga having longer paired setae, and long setae on femora not arranged in line.…”

“…Both of these genera are comprised of approximately 200 valid species known from the Holarctic and Oriental regions (Baumann 1975;Yang et al 2015;Yang and Li 2018;DeWalt et al 2020). Currently, more than 40 species of the genus Nemoura and nearly 100 species of the genus Amphinemura have been recorded from China (Wu 1926(Wu , 1938(Wu , 1940(Wu , 1962(Wu , 1973Sivec 1981;Li and Yang 2005, 2006a, 2006b, 2007a, 2007b, 2008a, 2008b, 2008c, 2008d, 2011Wang et al 2006;Du et al , 2008; Wang and Du 2008;Li et al 2012;Li et al 2016Li et al , 2018aLi et al , 2018bChen andDu 2017a, 2017b;Mo et al 2017Mo et al , 2019Mo et al , 2020aMo et al , 2020bMo et al , 2020cQian et al 2018;Chen 2020).…”
