It is crucial to actively encourage the development of agriculture green technology, which has been regarded as one of the most effective solutions to the environmental degradation caused by agricultural activities. However, agriculture green technology diffusion is indeed a challenging task and still faces numerous barriers. The stakeholders who can potentially deal with these barriers, however, have been overlooked by previous studies. To address these issues, social network analysis was performed to identify critical stakeholders and barriers. Their interactions in agriculture green technology diffusion were analyzed based on the literature, a questionnaire survey and expert judgments. A two-mode network and two one-mode networks were used to analyze the relationships among the identified 12 barriers and 14 stakeholders who can influence these 12 barriers identified. The results show that agricultural research institutes, universities, agribusiness, agencies of township promotion, the government and farmers’ relatives are key stakeholders and that the limited market demand for green technology and the high cost of its diffusion are two main barriers. However, poor green technology operability and farmer families in distress are factors that are not as important as previously perceived. Finally, some recommendations and suggestions are provided to promote agriculture green technology diffusion in China.

Field of complex network covers different social, technological, biological, scientific collaborative work, communication networks and many others. Among these networks, transportation network is an important indicator to measure the economic growth in any country. In this study different dynamics of Airport Network in Pakistan are analyzed by the complex network methodology. Dataset of air transportation has been collected from Civil Aviation Authority of Pakistan (CAA) and formatted to accomplish the complex network requirements. The network is formed to observe its different properties and compare these with their topological counterparts. In this, network nodes are represented by Airports of Pakistan while flights between them within a week are considered as edges. The behavior of degree distribution is observed as preferential attachment of nodes, which represented that few nodes are controlling overall network which emphasizes that Airport Network in Pakistan (ANP) follows power law. Clustering coefficient displayed the network as a clustered network. Result of short average path length highlights that Airport Network in Pakistan is small-world network. Study also signified the average nearest neighbour degree node, which explained that ANP exhibited disassortative mixing in nature which states that high degree nodes (airports) tend to connect to low degree nodes (airports). Interestingly, is has been observed that it is not necessary that the most connected node is also the most central node in degree centralities.

Numerical modeling of mosquito population dynamics of Aedes aegypti

BackgroundThe global incidences of dengue virus have increased the interest in studying and understanding the mosquito population dynamics. It is predominantly spread by Aedes aegypti in the tropical and sub-tropical countries in the world. Understanding these dynamics is important for public health in countries where climatic and environmental conditions are favorable for the propagation of these diseases. For this reason, a new model has been proposed to investigate the population dynamics of mosquitoes in a city.MethodsThe present paper discusses the numerical modeling of population dynamics of Ae. aegypti mosquitoes in an urban neighborhood of a city using the finite volume method. The model describes how populations spread through the city assisted by the wind. This model allows incorporating external factors (wind and chemical insecticides) and topography data (streets, building blocks, parks, forests and beach). The proposed model has been successfully tested in examples involving two Brazilian cities (City center, Juiz de Fora and Copacabana Beach, Rio de Janeiro).ResultsInvasion phenomena of Ae. aegypti mosquitoes have been observed in each of the simulations. It was observed that, inside the blocks, the growth of the population for both winged and aquatic phase causes an infestation of Ae. aegypti in a short time. Within the blocks the mosquito population was concentrated and diffused slowly. In the streets, there was a long-distance spread, which was influenced by wind and diffusion with a low concentration of mosquito population. The model was also tested taking into account chemical insecticides spread in two different configurations. It has been observed that the insecticides have a significant effect on the mosquito population for both winged and aquatic phases when the chemical insecticides spread more uniformly along all the streets in a neighborhood of a city.ConclusionsThe presented methodology can be employed to evaluate and to understand the epidemic risks in a specific region of the city.
