The key odorants mediating these preovulatory primer and releaser effects are the maturation inducing steroid (MIS), 4‐pregnen‐17,20 β ‐diol‐3‐one (17,20 β ‐P), and its sulphated and glucuronated conjugates, and androstenedione, as demonstrated by measurement of steroid release to the water (Stacey et al , 1989; Scott & Sorensen, 1994; Sorensen et al , 2005), electro‐olfactogram (EOG) recordings of olfactory sensitivity and specificity to these steroids (Sorensen et al , 1995), and the biological responses they induce when added to aquarium water (Dulka et al , 1987; Zheng & Stacey, 1996, 1997; Poling et al , 2001).…”
