“…Two points were randomly selected, and the lateral dimensions of g-C 3 N 4 nanosheets were about 300–400 nm, with a thickness of about 1.4–1.6 nm. Due to the theoretical value of 0.325 nm for the thickness of the single-layer g-C 3 N 4 , 34 the g-C 3 N 4 nanosheets possessed about 4–5 layers.…”

“…g-C 3 N 4 -based membranes have been applied in gas, liquid, ion, and molecular separation because of their well-defined triangular nanopores, defect holes, interlayer spacing, and functional groups. For effective separation, the influence of the thickness of the membrane, the hydrophilicity and surface properties of the g-C 3 N 4 membrane, the pH, and the pressure on the g-C 3 N 4 nanocomposite membranes must be taken into consideration, as was comprehensively discussed in a recent review . In this section, we will concentrate on the functionalization and hybridization of g-C 3 N 4 nanocomposite membranes and summarize the latest advancements related to separation processes.…”

“…An ideal g-C 3 N 4 monolayer is composed of periodically arrayed triazine (C 3 N 3 ) or tri- s -triazine (C 6 N 7 ) rings, and such an arrangement imbues the scaffold with intrinsic triangular pores with diameters of 3.1 Å that are permeable to water or gas molecules but size-exclude ions and other big molecules. Currently, 2D g-C 3 N 4 nanosheets have been intensely investigated for thermal/photo/electrocatalysis, optoelectronics, energy storage, sterilization, and more importantly, membrane separations. , Several representative reviews have emphasized the important applications of g-C 3 N 4 in the photoelectricity and energy storage fields but lack an impressive discussion of separation applications. Existing reviews related to g-C 3 N 4 -based membranes focus only their advantages but lack attention to their drawbacks.…”

“…Graphitic carbon nitride (g-C 3 N 4 ) is a new type of two-dimensional nanosheets material with a graphene-like layered structure, large specific surface area, and visible light absorption. Due to its special tri-s-triazine structural unit, it also has excellent mechanical, thermal, and chemical stability and photodegradability [26,27]. More importantly, g-C 3 N 4 is easy to prepare and is low-cost.…”
