Two consecutive intrauterine pregnancies following transperitoneal ovum migration

Abstract: CONTEXT: Transperitoneal migration is a mechanism for oocyte retrieval that is generally demonstrated in certain cases of ectopic pregnancy. However, the association between these two conditions is debatable. The rare occasions on which intrauterine pregnancy following transperitoneal migration can be documented are an opportunity for studying this topic. CASE REPORT: We report the case of a female with a history of salpingectomy due to an ectopic pregnancy at 31 years of age. Two subsequent pregnancies were i… Show more

“…As the hatching of the blastocyst is a programmed event, a delay in the arrival of the embryo to the uterus (product of oocyte transmigration), would predispose the occurrence of an ectopic pregnancy. However, more recent studies (Nogueira et al, 2011;Ross et al, 2013) confirm that oocyte transmigration is a frequent event, with an incidence of 32% in both intrauterine and ectopic pregnancy, in patients with a single tube.…”

“…Intrauterine embryo migration is described in In Vitro Fertilization (IVF), so there is a chance that this rare event could occur spontaneously ( DiLuigi et al ., 2008 ). And as for the event of patients with an intrauterine pregnancy and both tubes, the incidence of oocyte transmigration is speculative ( Nogueira et al ., 2011 ).…”

“…7,[18][19][20] This can occur with both ectopic and intrauterine pregnancies. 17,19,21 Ovum transmigration is considered a possible reason for ectopic pregnancy simply due to a delay in implantation. 19 Thus, when ectopic pregnancy is suspected, if more than one corpus luteal cyst is noted on the same ovary, it is important that the technologist thoroughly evaluate both adnexa for abnormal findings.…”
