Two 1-D and 2-D cobalt(II) complexes: synthesis, crystal structures, spectroscopic and electrochemical properties

Abstract: Two new cobalt(II) complexes have been synthesized via complexation of Co(II) acetate tetrahydrate with HL 1 and HL 2 originally. HL 1 , HL 2 and their corresponding Co(II) complexes were characterized by IR, 1 H NMR spectra, as well as by elemental analysis and UV-Vis spectroscopy, respectively. The crystal structures of the complexes have been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. 1 and 2 display that extensive hydrogen bonds and C-X···π bonding interactions construct the 1-D infinite chain [Co(L 3… Show more

“…As a result the central Zn2 atom finally has an O2O2O2 coordination environment. Then, all of the hexa-coordinated Zn(II) ions of complex 2 have slightly distorted octahedral symmetries (Figure 4b) [61,62]. …”

“…From Figure 3, the proton (-C9H9B or -C9 # H9B # ) of ethylenedioxime carbon atom (C9 or C9 # ) of (L) 3-unit is hydrogen bonded to oxygen atom (O7) of the µ-acetate ions, and the proton (-O9H9 or -O9 # H9 # ) of the coordinated ethanol molecule is hydrogen bonded to one of phenolic oxygen atom (O5 or O5 # ) of the (L) 3-unit. Thus, two pairs of intramolecular hydrogen bonds C9-H9B···O7, C9 # -H9B # ···O7 # , O9-H9···O5 and O9 # -H9 # ···O5 # [53][54][55][56][57][58][59] are formed. Under the intermolecular force of C7-H7···O6 and C7 # -H7 # ···O6 # , a 1D supramolecular chain that extends infinitely in the b axis direction is formed by the crystal of [{Zn(L)(µ-OAc)Zn(CH 3 CH 2 OH)} 2 ], as depicted in Figure 4 [60][61][62][63][64][65][66][67].…”

“…N 2 O 2 -type chelating ligands and their metal coordination compounds have achieved considerable attention in inorganic chemistry over several decades [1][2][3], especially in the area of their potential application in catalysts [4,5], biological fields [6][7][8][9][10], electrochemical conducts [11], ion recognitions [12][13][14][15][16], supramolecular architecture [17][18][19][20], as well as magnetic [21][22][23][24] and luminescence [25,26] materials. Recently, a new N 2 O 2 -type analogue, the Salamo ligand was developed [27][28][29][30][31][32].…”
