Abstract:One trinuclear Co(II) coordination compound [{CoL 1 (OAc)(CH 3 COCH 3 )} 2 Co] (1) and one unprecedented mononuclear Ni(II) coordination compound [Ni(L 2 ) 2 ] (2), constructed from a Salamo-type ligand H 2 L 1 were synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, IR, UV-vis spectra, and single crystal X-ray diffraction analyses. The results show that the Co(II) atoms have no significant distortion in CoO 6 or CoO 4 N 2 octahedrons in coordination compound 1. Interestingly, in coordination compound 2, the desired tri-or mono-nuclear Salamo-type Ni(II) coordination compound was not obtained, but an unprecedented Ni(II) coordination compound [Ni(L 2 ) 2 ] was synthesized, the Ni1 atom having no significant distortion in the NiO 2 N 2 planar quadrilateral geometry. Furthermore, the antimicrobial activities of coordination compound 1 and previously reported coordination compound [{CoL 1 (OAc)(MeOH)} 2 Co]·2MeOH (3) are discussed.
Tri- and hexanuclear Ni(ii)–M(ii) (M = Ca, Sr and Ba) complexes have been synthesized and characterized structurally. Fluorescence titration experiments show that the coordinating capabilities in the central O6 site are in the order of Ca(ii) > Sr(ii) > Ba(ii).
Newly designed three trinuclear coordination compounds [Ni 3 (L 1) 2 (OAc) 2 (CH 3 OH) 2 ] (1), [Ni 3 (L 1) 2 (OAc) 2 (CH 3 CH 2 CH 2 OH) 2 ]•2CH 3 CH 2 CH 2 OH (2) and [Ni 3 (L 1) 2 (OAc) 2 (DMF) 2 ]•1.71DMF (3) and one mononuclear coordination compound [Cu(L 2) 2 ] (4) have been synthesized by H 2 L 1 and nickel(II) and copper(II) acetate hydrates in different solvents. Single-crystal X-ray structure determinations revealed that the coordination compounds 1-3 have analogous molecular structures. The coordination compounds 1, 2, and 3 were affected by the coordinated methanol, n-propanol, and N,N-dimethylformamide molecules, respectively, and the various coordinated solvent molecules give rise to the formation of the representive solvent-induced Ni II coordination compounds. All the Ni II atoms are six-coordinated with geometries of slightly distorted octahedron. Obviously, in the coordination compound 4, the expected salamo-like mono-or tri-nuclear Cu II coordination compound has not been obtained, but a new Cu II coordination compound [Cu(L 2) 2 ] has been gained. The Cu1 atom is four-coordinated and possesses a geometry of slightly distorted planar quadrilateral. Furthermore, the fluorescence properties of coordination compounds 1-4 and magnetic behavior of coordination compound 1 were investigated.
