Abstract

Individuals need to feel safe by taking precautions against the negativities they may encounter in their lives. The aim of people to lead a healthier life has also increased the interest in private health insurance. The development of private health insurance provides positive contributions to the lives of individuals. At the same time, it both alleviates the burden of the state and makes positive contributions to the development of employment. Considering these aspects, it is important to investigate the factors affecting the private health insurance demand of individuals. In this study, it is aimed to determine the factors affecting the demand for private health insurance in Turkey. For this purpose, the 2019 Turkish Statistical Institute Household Budget Survey data set was used as a sample. In the econometric analysis of the study, binary logistic regression method was applied. According to the findings obtained in the study, significant results were obtained in the variables of gender, age, marital status, education and monthly income among the variables affecting the ownership of private health insurance, and in the parameters of many occupational groups.
