Turbulence changes from magnetic fields in a stationary plasma

Abstract: When the krypton plasma in a DC glow discharge tube is exposed to an axial magnetic field, the turbulent energy and the characteristic dominant mode in the turbulent fluctuations are systematically and unexpectedly reduced with increasing magnetic field strength. When the index measuring the rate of transfer of energy through fluctuation scales is monitored, a lambda-like dependence on turbulent energy is routinely observed in all magnetic fields. From this, a critical turbulent energy is identified, which als… Show more

“…Therefore, it was necessary to have a special design for applying the DBD plasma to water treatment. Some studies have developed reactors by using DBD plasma for aqueous pollutant removal (Güçeri and Fridman 2007;Huang et al 2010Huang et al , 2012, and the turbulence changes of plasma were investigated when it was exposed to magnetic fields (Alexander et al 2011). Hybrid gas-liquid electrical discharge reactors were used for aqueous phenol degradation, formation of ·OH, H 2 O 2 , and O 3 was observed (Kusic et al 2005;Lukes et al 2004;Lukes and Locke 2005a, b;Sahni and Locke 2006).…”
