Tuning the anticancer activity of a novel pro-apoptotic peptide using gold nanoparticle platforms

Abstract: Pro-apoptotic peptides induce intrinsic apoptosis pathway in cancer cells. However, poor cellular penetration of the peptides is often associated with limited therapeutic efficacy. In this report, a series of peptide-gold nanoparticle platforms were developed to evaluate the anticancer activity of a novel alpha-lipoic acid-peptide conjugate, LA-WKRAKLAK, with respect to size and shape of nanoparticles. Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) were found to enhance cell internalization as well as anticancer activity of the p… Show more

“…Interestingly, Akrami et al showed the possibility to exploit gold NPs as a novel anticancer platform [41]. Results of this research confirm the improvement of cell internalization of gold NPs, with higher cytotoxicity and cellular uptake for smaller NPs compared to larger nanospheres and nanorods, suggesting that anticancer effects of the selected peptides were modulated by the size and shape of the gold nanoparticles [41].…”

“…Further, these systems demonstrated higher antimicrobial activity and stability in serum and in the presence of non-physiological concentrations of proteolytic enzymes than soluble AMP, as well as low cytotoxicity against human cells [40]. “…1). Specifically, the addition of mantle-derived CO 2 and thermogenic CH 4 derived from the emplacement of the LIP 911 and subsequent releases of CH 4 from marine clathrates 12, 13 and terrestrial environments 14, 15 to the oceans and atmosphere are the proposed drivers of the T-OAE warming and carbon cycle perturbations. These perturbations are now recorded in sedimentary successions as pronounced negative carbon isotope excursions (CIEs), which occurred during a long-term trend to more positive carbon isotope values.…”

“…AuNPs have been extensively used as a core for coating targeting peptides . Lee and co‐workers attached RGD (targets inflammation) to Au half‐shell nanoparticles containing methotrexate (MTX, most widely used RA therapeutic) as an improved photo‐/chemotherapy agent for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in collagen‐induced arthritic (CIA) mice.…”
