“…For HPV-associated cancer, several studies have reported that the minor A allele of SNP-308 represents an increased risk of HPV infection and HPV-associated cervical cancer from various ethnic groups [17,29]. A meta-analysis based on 2298 cases of cervical cancer and 1903 controls from eight study populations showed a summary OR of 1.31 (95% CI, 1.14–1.52); that analysis compared individuals carrying the GA/AA genotypes with those carrying the GG genotype of TNF - α -308, in which further stratification analysis by ethnicity showed that the risk remained significant among both Caucasians and Asians [30]. …”

“…Furthermore, it was shown that high levels of TNF‐α contributed to monocyte differentiation into mature dendritic cells (DCs) in CC. TNF‐α is the most important pro‐inflammatory cytokine which is produced by macrophages and monocytes, playing both anticarcinogenic and procarcinogenic roles . Mutations in the A allele and the GA/AA single nucleotide polymorphism in TNF‐> j308 have been demonstrated as risk factors for CC development .…”

“…49,50 Mutations in the A allele and the GA/AA single nucleotide polymorphism in TNF-> j308 have been demonstrated as risk factors for CC development. 50 Another cytokine, IL-6, is associated with persistent HPV infection and with the progression of CC. IL-6 activates the signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) oncogene, which contributes to chronic inflammation in CC.…”

“…Moreover, many researches about TNF-α −308 polymorphism and other kinds of cancer risk were conducted and yielded the association in the same direction. Two meta-analyses performed by Ding et al [57] and Zhang et al [58] successively observed the increased cervical cancer with TNF-α −308 polymorphism. Hong et al [59] demonstrated that TNF-α −308 polymorphism increased the risk of developing gastric cancer in a Chinese, and the polymorphism of interest was also shown to increase breast cancer risk among Caucasian in a meta-analysis by Fang [60]; however, a meta-analysis failed to found an association with nasopharyngeal carcinoma perhaps due to the small sample size and limited statistical power [61].…”
