Pathogenic role of exosomes and microRNAs in HPV‐mediated inflammation and cervical cancer: A review

Abstract: Cervical cancer (CC) is the fourth most common cause of cancer death in women. The most important risk factor for the development of CC is cervical infection with human papilloma virus (HPV). Inflammation is a protective strategy that is triggered by the host against pathogens such as viral infections that acts rapidly to activate the innate immune response. Inflammation is beneficial if it is brief and well controlled; however, if the inflammation is excessive or it becomes of chronic duration, it can produce… Show more

“…Finally, it has been found that that microRNAs (miRNAs) regulated translational effectiveness or stability of the targeted mRNAs via interactions with 3′-un-translated region (3′-UTR) of the respective targets [142][143][144][145][146][147]. These molecules exert their effects via targeting a variety of molecular and cellular mechanisms [148][149][150][151][152]. Hence, miRNAs could be used as diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic biomarkers in the treatment of different diseases such as stroke, cancer, cardiovascular diseases, infection diseases, diabetes, and viral infections [153][154][155][156][157][158][159][160][161][162][163].…”

“…Cervical cancer is known as the fourth cancer among women and the eighth common cancer worldwide [1,2]. Cervical cancer is a result of being infected by some types of human papillomavirus or HPV, which are effective on the mucosa [3,4].…”

“…Cervical cancer (CC) is one of the most malignant cancers in females and become a leading cause of tumor-related deaths worldwide. 1,2 Although CC at the early stage could be cured via surgery, most patients are diagnosed at advanced or metastatic stages. 3,4 Treatment by surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy achieves unsatisfactory outcomes in these advanced patients.…”
