Tuberculoma Mimicking Falx Meningioma-Case Report-

Abstract: A 25-year-old male presented with an intracranial tuberculoma mimicking falx meningioma manifesting as right lower monoparesis. The patient had a past history of pulmonary tuberculosis, cured by antituberculous therapy. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance (MR) imaging showed a lesion mimicking a falx meningioma. Surgery achieved subtotal resection. Histological and biochemical examinations revealed the surgical specimen was tuberculoma. He was treated with antituberculous therapy, and his gait disturban… Show more

“…Tuberculomas have been located in fronto parietal region, pontine, pericallosal location and suprasellar locations. 3,6 Though intraparenchymal tuberculomas are most common but dural based extracranial tuberculomas are reported. 3 Cystic and en plaque meningioma mimics and those caused by M. avium have been mentioned in literature.…”

“…In computed tomography scans, tuberculoma appears as a low or high density mass, round or mutilobular, with homogeneous or ring enhancement after contrast agent injection [3,12]. Most tuberculomas appear hypointense to isointense to gray matter [14][15][16][17][18][19] on T1WI and T2WI and variable on DWI, often with a hypointense rim in T2WI [20]; those with hyperintense centers on T2WI are usually hyperintense on DWI. [21] Meningiomas typically appear isointense to gray matter on T1WI and T2WI and DWI, unless atypical or aggressive.…”
