Tryptophan-dehydrobutyrine diketopiperazine, a metabolite of Streptomyces spectabilis.

Abstract: A new metabolite, tryptophan-dehydrobutyrine diketopiperazine (TDD) was isolated from Streptomyces spectabilis, the organism producing the streptovaricin antibiotics. The structure was assigned from spectral properties and degradation products. The biological activities of the streptovaricins, members of the ansamycin1) class of antibiotics, are of continuing interest and we are now investigating the minor components of the streptovaricin complex. In the course of these studies we recently isolated a compound t… Show more

“…These data suggest that ROQ-D is the precursorofROQ-C. Tryptophanyl-histidinyl lactam is possibly an intermediate of the biosynthesis of ROQ-D on the assumption that the tested fungus own such a biosynthetic route as that of echinuline 91 in Aspergillus glaucus. Indeed as a metabolite of microorganism, a tryptophanyl-diketopiperazine having no C;-unit derived from mevaIonate was isolated by Kakimura et al 10 ) All these findings seem to indicate that in the Penicillium mold employed, the alkaloids are biosynthesized by way of the schema depicted in Fig. 1.…”

“…A compound with structure 63 has been isolated by Zähner et al [111] from Candida lipolytica and described as antibiotic. Many trials have been done to synthesize 63 using isatine (65) and isatoic anyhdride (66) [112] . Tryptanthrine ( 63) is biosynthetically produced from isatine (65) and anthranilic acid (48).…”
