Trigeminal nerve palsy in nasopharyngeal carcinoma: Correlation between clinical findings and magnetic resonance imaging

Abstract: The incidence of MRI-evidenced trigeminal nerve involvement is high and often asymptomatic in NPC. Almost all patients with clinical trigeminal nerve palsies had MRI evidence of trigeminal nerve involvement in intracranial or orbital segment, especially in cavernous sinus.

“…These are all features that are important in the pathogenesis of primary tumor growth in human NPC disease. 23,24 Focal lymph node invasion was apparent about 20% of the time. By comparison, when we injected C666-1 and HONE-1 cells subcutaneously ( Table 1, experiment 2), we found that the tumors remained encapsulated and contained at the site of injection, showing no signs of invasiveness after 8 weeks of growth (Suppl.…”

“…MRI imaging is very useful in detecting perineural and intracranial spread. 3 In the present case, we performed, endoscopic nasal and transpalatal combined approach for mass excision with a tentative diagnosis of nasopharyngeal lymphoma. Histopathological examination of mass revealed NPC, non-keratinizing undifferentiated type.…”
