Tridoped Mesoporous Carbon as a Metal-Free Catalyst for Ammoxidation of (Hetero)Aromatic Alcohols to Nitriles

Abstract: Ammoxidation of alcohols is a promising cyanidefree strategy for the synthesis of organic nitriles. It is desirable but challenging to conduct nitrile synthesis over a heterogeneous metal-free catalyst with aqueous ammonia as a nitrogen source and molecular oxygen as an oxidant. In the present work, an Se,P,Ntridoped carbon nanomaterial (Se,P,N/CN-900) was prepared and used as a metal-free catalyst for the direct ammoxidation of alcohols to nitriles with aqueous ammonia and molecular oxygen. The synergistic ef… Show more

“…Liu et al studied metal-free Se co-doped carbon-based catalysts obtained from biomass for ammoxidation and oxidation of alcohols with molecular oxygen. 135,136 For instance, a Se/P/N ternary-doped carbonaceous material was evaluated as a metal-free catalyst for the direct ammoxidation of (hetero)aromatic alcohols to nitriles with aqueous NH 3 and O 2 . 135 To prepare the metal-free catalysts, biomass of agricultural origin ( e.g.…”

“…Industrialization leads to the release of large amounts of organic pollutants, primarily dyes and phenolic compounds, into environmental waters, resulting in various health problems for humans and other organisms. Methylene blue (MB) and 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) are representative organic pollutants, and at very low concentrations, they can alter the refractive index of light and significantly impact the physiological activities of aquatic organisms. The catalytic reaction accelerated by various nanoparticles (NPs) such as silver, gold, and titanium dioxide is considered a promising technology for contaminant removal due to its advantages of short retention time, high reaction rate, and convenient operation. Therefore, these toxic organic pollutants with poor intrinsic biodegradability can be converted into degradable molecules through the catalytic reduction reaction via electron transfer between the catalyst and pollutant …”
