Trichomegaly in a 3‐Year‐Old Girl with Alopecia Areata

Abstract: We report here a case of bilateral trichomegaly associated with alopecia areata in a 3-year-old girl, healthy except for mild atopic dermatitis. “…While the PGF 2α analogue latanoprost failed to recover human eyebrows in alopecia areata, 49 it stimulated the regrowth of eyelashes in alopecia areata 15,50 . Trichomegaly may occur with other hairy regions remaining unaffected, 9,51 or even concurrently with alopecia areata 52 . Taken together, studies on mouse back pelage hairs could potentially provide misleading information on eyelash follicles.…”

Nazareth et al (11) documented 23 medications associated with tri chomegaly. The most common were prostaglandin analogs, cyclosporine, interferon, topiramate and cetuximab.…”
