Tribological performance of polymer composites used in electrical engineering applications

Abstract: Sliding wear performance of 20% mica-filled polyamide 6 (PA6 + 20% mica) and 20% short glass fibrereinforced polysulphone (PSU + 20 GFR) polymer composites used in electrical applications were investigated using a pin-on-disc wear test apparatus. Two different disc materials were used in this study. These are AISI 316 L stainless steel and 30% glass fibre-reinforced polyphenylenesulphide (PPS + 30%GFR) polymer composite. Wear test was carried out at 10, 20 and 30 N applied load values and 0•5 m/s sliding speed… Show more

“…Moreover, Al 2 O 3 particles disc and the important properties of heat and wear are produced on the contact surface of the specimen. The sliding contact of two materials results in heat generation at asperities and hence increases the temperature [25]. Al 2 O 3 particles have a high hardness of 1100 kg mm −2 [26] and high thermal conductivity (30 Wm −1 K −1 ) [27].…”

“…The literature shows that a great range of high-end matrices are usually studied: amorphous PC (Polycarbonate) (Haskell et al 1983, Chrysostomou andHashemi 1996), PSU (Polysulfone) (Wenz et al 1990, Demir 2013, or semicrystalline PEEK (Polyetheretherketone) (Crevel, Jeremy 2014,Garcia-Gonzalez et al 2015. The polycarbonate (PC) present the advantage of being already widely used in the industry.…”
