Objective: To investigate eye conservation, local control, and complication rates among children with retinoblastoma treated with 2 different external beam radiotherapy (EBR) techniques.Methods: Fifty-eight eyes in 42 patients received EBR as the primary treatment modality for retinoblastoma (median follow-up, 37 months). The EBR technique was relative lens-sparing (RLS) in 26 eyes and modified lateral beam (MLB) in 32 eyes. Both groups were comparable in Reese-Ellsworth retinoblastoma classification. If necessary, patients received focal salvage therapy.Results: At 24 months, eye conservation rates were 88.5% and 89.1% among eyes treated with RLS and MLB, respectively (P = .40); tumor control rates without salvage therapy were 84.6% and 53.3% (P = .02), respectively. Among eyes with Reese-Ellsworth stage IV and V disease, eye conservation rates were 88% ± 8% and 83% ± 9% at 36 months in the RLS and MLB groups, respectively, and local tumor control rates were 81% ± 10% and 51% ± 12%. Percentages of eyes without cataract at 36 months were 83.1% and 63.0%, respectively (P = .40). Among patients observed for at least 18 months, midfacial hypoplasia developed in 38.5% and 29.4%, respectively (P = .70). Conclusions:The EBR technique was associated with high eye conservation and local control rates. Salvage therapy was performed significantly less frequently in the RLS group compared with the MLB group, and complication rates in both groups were similar.

In the basketball game, the accuracy and standardization of pitching are directly related to the score. So it is very important to analyze the pitching figure movement to have a better positioning of the fingers. There are limited techniques to recognize the movement. The human motion recognition method is one of them. It utilizes the spatiotemporal image segmentation and interactive region detection to recognize images of pitching finger movement of basketball players. This method has a limitation that the symmetrical information of the human body and sphere cannot be excavated, which leads to certain errors in recognition effect. This paper presents a method of recognizing pitching finger movement of basketball players based on symmetry algorithm, constructs an acquisition model, carries out edge contour detection and adaptive feature segmentation of images of pitching finger movement of basketball players, and uses a fixed threshold to segment finger image to extract players’ hand contour and locate the middle axis of the finger. On this basis, the symmetry recognition method based on nematode recognition algorithm is used to recognize the symmetry of basketball pitching finger movement image and complete the accurate recognition of basketball pitching finger movement image. The experimental results show that the proposed method can effectively recognize the basketball player’s finger movement image. The average recognition accuracy is 98%, the growth rate of recognition speed is 98%, and the maximum recognition time is 12 s. The robustness of the proposed method is 0.45.

The history of the application of chemotherapy in the management of retinoblastoma (RB) may conveniently be divided into three eras: initial enthusiasm (from early 1950s to mid 1970s), realism (from late 1970s to mid 1980s) and possibility (from mid 1980s to the future). Available data from each of these eras are reviewed in the clinical categories of: intraocular RB, micrometastatic RB and overt dissemination. The latter is further sub-classified into: orbital invasion, central nervous system involvement and systemic metastases. Experimental models are described with particular emphasis on future directions. Early reports led to initial optimism subsequently dampened by a more critical approach. Recent results with increasingly effective chemotherapeutic regimens offer the possibility of a valid contribution in each of the above clinical settings. A multi-modality approach is recommended optimizing a combination of the most active drugs with continuing refinements of other techniques. In selected patients with intraocular, and particularly bilateral RB, visual outcome may be enhanced by the combined use of non-surgical modalities. Adjuvant treatment of presumed micrometastases needs to be studied within risk categories defined by prognostic factors. Invasion of the ocular coats and/or of the optic nerve are the most relevant factors but there are continued difficulties in defining the extent of involvement and eligibility criteria for such a strategy. Overt dissemination has recently been demonstrated to be curable in each of the three subgroups above. Intensive regimens incorporating cyclophosphamide, vincristine, cisplatinum, etoposide and possibly doxorubicin, plus intrathecal agents in combination with radiation therapy and, in some instances supplemented by bone marrow transplantation have produced promising results. Multi-institutional collaboration has been encouraged by the recently formed International Committee for the Staging and Management of Retinoblastoma, opening the way for prospective clinical trials. At the same time both laboratory and clinical experimental studies are being pursued and may produce further improvements in currently available strategies.
