Associated with the use of removable prostheses, the development of candidiasis, called prosthetic stomatitis, is frequently observed. In view of the application of silver nanoparticles (AgNP) in dentistry that may offer antimicrobial effect, the aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of adding AgNP with different concentrations during thermopolymerization or immersion of acrylic in this substance in the properties antifungal, mechanical and cytotoxic. The groups were divided: addition of 1% silver nanoparticle solution (G1), addition of 2.5% silver nanoparticle solution (G2), addition of 5% silver nanoparticle solution (G3), immersed for 10 min in aqueous silver nanoparticle solution (G4), immersed for 24 hours in aqueous silver nanoparticle solution (G5). In the cytotoxicity assay, at all evaluation times, all groups showed cytotoxic effect (p <0.05) when compared to the control group (CG). For the microbiological assay, C. albicans reduction was observed only for G4 and G5 when compared to CG (p <0.05). The lowest resistance values were observed in the group with 5% silver nanoparticle (G3) incorporation (p <0.05). It was concluded that the thermopolymerized acrylic resin immersed in AgNP, G4 and G5 promoted microbiological reduction, cytotoxicity increase and flexural strength decrease at 5% concentration.

The aim of the study is to present the contribution of military dentists to modern salivalogy and to illuminate their professional journey in maxillofacial surgery and dentistry.Material and methods. The main scientific publications about the life and professional activity of the military dentists A.V. Klementov and V.V. Lobeiko were analyzed. Lobeiko devoted to modern salivalogy and other related aspects of modern stomatology and maxillofacial surgery have been analyzed.Results. We present previously unknown information from the lives of A.V. Klementov and V.V. Lobeiko, military dentists well-known in our country. Lobeiko who made a considerable contribution to the study of salivary glands pathology and thus developed a new direction of stomatology and maxillofacial surgery - salivalogy. The main directions of their scientific activity in the development and improvement of methods of treatment of diseases, damages and tumors of the salivary glands as well as rehabilitation of patients after combined treatment of oncostomatological diseases are considered. It was marked that A.V. Klementov offered the classification of inflammatory, system diseases and tumors of the salivary glands, which is used up to now by dentists and maxillofacial surgeons on the whole territory of the Russian Federation and in the neighbouring countries, and he improved many diagnostic methods, conservative and surgical treatment of this pathology, suggested therapy methods of salivary gland injuries and their outcomes. V.V. For the first time Lobeiko proposed index methods of evaluation of the severity of the course of inflammatory, reactive-dystrophic diseases of the salivary glands, radiation and drug-induced sialoadenopathies, as well as a ball system of evaluation of the effectiveness of treatment of mentioned diseases in adults, which allowed to standardize the severity of the pathology and to objectify the positive result of the complex treatment, he was one of the first who used the endoscopic technique to remove salivary glands. Conclusions. Familiarity with the life history of military dentists A.V. Klementov and V.V. Lobeiko, as well as their scientific research in the field of salivalogy will be useful to dentists and maxillofacial surgeons dealing with salivary gland pathology.
