“…A related study led by Kraus and colleagues 96 demonstrated a 96% clearance rate of SCCs treated with up to 1.0 mL of 5‐FU/epi gel weekly for up to 6 weeks. Morse and coworkers 97 describe a case of a large keratoacanthomatous SCC of the alar crease that cleared after eight weekly injections with dosing ranging from 0.8 to 2.4 mL of 5‐FU. In all studies treatment was well tolerated with excellent cosmesis.…”

“…A subsequent larger study of 116 lesions reported a complete response rate of 91% to intralesional 5‐FU, as demonstrated by post‐treatment excisional biopsy 131 . SCC has also shown good response to 5‐FU, even with larger lesions 132,133 . In general, intralesional 5‐FU in a bovine collagen matrix may offer the promise of a simple and effective technique for management of BCC and SCC, although long‐term outcome data are lacking at the present time.…”

“…131 SCC has also shown good response to 5-FU, even with larger lesions. 132,133 In general, intralesional 5-FU in a bovine collagen matrix may offer the promise of a simple and effective technique for management of BCC and SCC, although long-term outcome data are lacking at the present time. This technique, although not yet reported on eyelid tumours, certainly seems to be a promising nonsurgical therapy for patients with periocular SCC and BCC who are resistant to surgery or who are not surgical candidates.…”
