Treatment of periorbital dark circles: Comparative study of carboxy therapy vs chemical peeling vs mesotherapy

Abstract: All 3 treatment modalities were effective in the reduction in periorbital pigmentation. However, mesotherapy showed a significant improvement in pigmentation and a higher level of patient satisfaction compared with the other types of treatment.

“…The use of topical formulations containing depigmenting actives is the main therapeutic strategy used in the management of POH 1 . Synthetic depigmenting agents such as hydroquinone and kojic acid are highly effective, however, long‐term exposure raises several safety concerns (atrophy, carcinogenesis, contact dermatitis, and other local and systemic side effects); and nature‐derived depigmenting actives such as arbutin, niacinamide, yeast derivatives, and polyphenols have been reported to inhibit melanogenesis without melanocytotoxicity 4 . This study presents an overview of the application of natural extracts and nature‐derived actives in the topical treatment of POH along with relevant clinical trial findings and in vitro screening results supporting their efficacy.…”

“…A few studies have investigated the efficacy of PRP in the treatment of infraorbital dark circles. [5][6][7] Although the current studies have positive results, they could not aim to evaluate the change in the quality of life in those patients. In our study, we aimed to discuss our results of PRP procedure in the treatment of infraorbital dark circles using objective scales based on patient satisfaction and the quality of life.…”

“…It was first introduced by Pistor in 1958. 5 The goal of mesotherapy is to delay and improve the skin changes caused by aging. 6 It is a minimally invasive procedure that involves simultaneous injection of small amounts of hyaluronic acids, vitamins, antioxidants, enzymes, and humectants into the subcutaneous layer to stimulate the biosynthetic ability of fibroblasts and to provide an optimal physiologic environment for fibroblasts to increase collagen and elastin syntheses and supply basic active molecules.…”
