Treatment of osteoporosis in men

Abstract: Although additional fracture data are needed to endorse the clinical care of osteoporosis in men, consensus views were reached on diagnostic criteria and intervention thresholds. Empirical data in men display similarities with data acquired in women, despite pathophysiological differences, which may not be clinically relevant. Men should receive treatment at a similar 10-year fracture probability as in women. The design of mixed studies may reduce the lag between comparable treatments for osteoporosis in women… Show more

“…In men, 50% of cases are secondary to one of three conditions: endogenous or exogenous glucocorticoid excess, hypogonadism, and excessive alcohol consumption. 10,11 In addition to these, idiopathic hypercalciuria-defined as urinary calcium > 3-4 mg/kg/day or 300 mg/24 h-is present in 8% of men with osteoporosis.…”

“…Some novel coumarin-3-carboxamide derivatives linked to N-benzylpiperidine scaffold were synthesized and evaluated as acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase (BuChE) inhibitors [9]. Osteoporosis is a progressive skeletal disorder, due to the unequal coupling between osteoclast mediated bone resorption and osteoblast mediated bone formation [10,11]. Anti-osteoporotic effects of the newly synthesized coumarine pyridine hybrids were evaluated in primary cultures of rat calvarial osteoblasts in vitro [12].…”
