Travelers' pro‐environmental behaviors in the Hyperloop context: Integrating norm activation and AIDA models

Abstract: This study combines the Norm Activation model (NAM) with the Attention‐Interest‐Desire‐Action model (AIDA) to explain the effect of Hyperloop videos on potential travelers' pro‐environmental behaviors. Using PLS‐SEM, the study's results indicate that each construct of NAM (problem awareness, ascribed responsibility, and personal norm), together with attention, interest, and desire, explains 75% of the variance in pro‐environmental behavioral intentions. The study's findings also indicate that a promotional vid… Show more

“…The following theoretical additions to the existing literature are illustrated by this investigation. Firstly, the study found that both the TPB and NAM models demonstrate significant explaining capacity on hikers' PEB in the protected areas, which further validates the findings of previous studies PEB (Han, 2015(Han, , 2021Alzubaidi et al, 2021;Aziz et al, 2021;Singh and Kaur, 2021;Cao et al, 2022;Kang, 2022;Long et al, 2022;Song et al, 2022;Zheng et al, 2022). Therefore, it is demonstrated that integrating TPB and NAM models is useful and effective for examining hikers' PEB in the protected areas and for understanding more fully the influence mechanism underlying such behavior.…”

“…First, the results revealed that both the TPB model and NAM model displayed explanatory capacity on hikers' PEB in Wuyishan National Park in China. Scholars from a variety of disciplines have regularly evaluated the suitability of utilizing TPB or NAM models to explain PEB (Han, 2015(Han, , 2021Alzubaidi et al, 2021;Aziz et al, 2021;Singh and Kaur, 2021;Cao et al, 2022;Kang, 2022;Long et al, 2022;Song et al, 2022;Zheng et al, 2022).…”

“…This study is one of the first attempts to compare the tourists' PEB and hikers' PEB in China's Wuyishan national park while using the TPB mode and NAM in tandem. The following theoretical additions to the existing literature were provided by this investigation: firstly, this study found that both the TPB and NAM demonstrated significant explanatory capacity for tourists' and hikers' PEB in the protected areas, further validating the findings of previous studies on PEB [30,33,52,72,[107][108][109][110][111][112].…”

“…Schwartz (1977) conceived moral norms as feelings of strong moral obligations that people feel toward themselves to engage in pro-social behavior. In line with this model, many scholars have shown that moral norms help to explain pro-environmental behavior (Bamberg & Möser, 2007;Biel & Thøgersen, 2007;Hunecke et al, 2001;Kang, 2022;Thøgersen, 1999). The formation and activation of a moral norm is probably based on the interaction of cognitive, emotional, and social factors (Bierhoff, 2002).…”
