“…Out of this the maximum incidence 39.04% (n=82) was among 21-30 years age group. This finding coincides with most of the similar studies 4,5,6,7 . Males were slightly predominated over females (54.16% vs 45.84%) which is almost similar with other studies 5,6,7,8,9 .…”

Afolabi et al 10 found male to female ratio -2.5:1 whereas Linderman et al 11 showed female predominated over male.…”

“…Overall spontaneous closure of TM perforations in our study was seen in 235 (82.46%) cases and after successful tympanoplasty the number of healed perforation became 278 (97.54%). High spontaneous healing was also reported by Orji et al and Wani et al (91.1%), and 78% by Persaud et al 6,13,15 However, it was only 38% in cases of Remenschneider et al, and 55.6% in cases of Cohen et al 8,16 At 5 years' follow up group A had significantly higher number of unscarred, healthy TMs than group B. Thus, edge approximation and gelfoam splinting in group A helped in better spontaneous healing in 5 th and 6 th week and achieving higher rate of unscarred healthy TM on long term follow up.…”

“…In the series reported by Wani et al, 92.3% had single while 7.7% had multiple TM perforations while in the cases of Sridhara et al, twenty-two (65%) were total or near-total perforations. 13,14 Three patients (0.78%) had ossicular chain disruption in our series; while it was seen in 6 (18%) of patients in the study by Sridhara et al 14 The difference can be attributed to variable intensity of the blast in different series.…”
