“…With regard to a specific association between PTSD and BPD, the taxonomic hypothesis most commonly advocated by ‘trauma models' is that both pathologies are part of a general spectrum of pathologies related to traumatic experiences [11,64,65,66]. Although this is a tentative approach, empirical findings show that the prevalence of PTSD and traumatic events in childhood is not consistently higher in subjects with BPD than in patients with other personality disorders [16].…”

“…Within BPD samples, findings show that 33-79% of these patients are also diagnosed with PTSD comorbidity, regardless of whether the sample came from an outpatient or inpatient setting [11,12,13,14,15]. Additionally, when a comparison group was included, consisting of patients with a principal diagnosis of major depression, the percentage of subjects with PTSD was 5 times greater among BPD subjects [13].…”

“…Case in point, there is remarkable overlap between cPTSD and several other diagnoses/syndromes, including PTSD, depression, anxiety disorders and borderline personality disorder [27]. Moreover, the co-incidence between cPTSD and BPD, which is often regarded as a trauma-related condition [9], has been reported to be 80%, questioning the discriminant validity of cPTSD [28]. Studies on the treatment of cPTSD are scarce, although Dorrepaal et al [29] encourages group treatment for patients with cPTSD, notwithstanding the reported attrition rates ranging between 16% [29] and 20% [30].…”

“…Deutlich wird daran zum einen die Tendenz zur weiteren Spezialisierung, zum anderen eine Entwicklung in Richtung neuer Angebote, die der Komplexität der BPS-Komorbidität Rechnung tragen [Harned et al, 2012;Sack et al, 2013].…”
