“…Our results also coincide with those of Caspi et al, (2008), who found that among Bedouin veterans of the Israeli defense forces, that it was the combination of trauma exposure and psychological distress that was associated with physical health disorder. Caspi et al's (2008) study is especially informative as they included health impairments in daily functioning, physician-diagnosed medical conditions, and health visits. Similarly, O'Toole, and Catts (2008) found that it was through trauma's influence on psychological distress that veterans' health was found to be impaired.…”

Moreover, there has been little attempt to examine how physical health is affected in these circumstances and how physical health might be related to psychological distress (Caspi, Saroff, Suleimani, & Klein, 2008). …”

“…A careful reading of the study by Caspi et al [12] on posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in a group of Bedouin members of the Israel Defence Forces suggests that 14.5% of the 317 interviewed participants had PTSD and 11.1% had AUD diagnosed using the SCID. About 5.1% had both PTSD and AUD (35% of those with PTSD had AUD).…”

“…The sample, composed of 129 Bedouin women and their husbands, is a subset of Bedouin households recruited from one large village in the Western Galilee region in northern Israel for a community-based study examining trauma exposure and rate of PTSD among Bedouin servicemen (Caspi et al, 2008). Recruiters from the village's five tribal families conducted door-to-door enrollment of potential participants from households identified as having members in the Israel Defense Forces service.…”

“…The current study is based on unique research with Bedouin households recruited to examine trauma exposure and rate of posttraumatic disorders in Bedouin men serving in the Israel Defense Forces (Caspi, Saroff, Suleimani, & Klein, 2008). Our initial study found high rates of trauma exposure (75%) among the 317 Bedouin male participants.…”
