Trauma and the Politics of Memory of the Uruguayan Dictatorship

Abstract: Ethnographic research on the life experiences of former political prisoners and their families in Uruguay suggests the need for rethinking of the concept of trauma, which is often inadequate to convey the historical and social specificity of painful memories.
