“…TUMT was performed using the Prostatron device (EDAP Technomed, Lyon, France) with the second–generation, high–energy protocol (Prostasoft 2.5) which provides a maximum power of 70 W with a rectal threshold set at 43.5°C [21]. The correct position of the treatment antenna was verified by ultrasound and the duration of treatment was 1 h. An extensive description of the treatment has been given elsewhere.…”

“…Also, during the last decade many alternatives to prostatectomy have surfaced, ranging from the pharmacological approach to numerous procedural alternatives. [8][9][10][11][12][13] While none of these alternatives has achieved subjective and objective results comparable to those noted postoperatively, morbidity is sig nificantly decreased and one may question w hether transure thral prostatectomy-like results always m ust be obtained to achieve a good outcome. Urodynamic studies can also be useful in selection of candidates for alternative treat ments.14 '15 For the last 5 years, we performed transurethral micro wave thermotherapy in patients with lower urinary tract symptoms and BPH.…”

“…Earlier studies 18,19 already suggested the predictive value of urodynamic studies with pressure¯ow analysis and this study also con®rms the importance of this investigation when predicting outcome. Especially in predicting a poor response in the maximum¯ow parameter the pressure¯ow ®ndings are very useful.…”
