In rural areas, land use activities around primary arterial roads influence the road section’s traffic characteristics. Regulations dictate the design of primary arterial roads to accommodate high speeds. Hence, there is a mix of traffic between high-speed vehicles and vulnerable road users (pedestrians, bicycles, and motorcycles) around the land. As a result, researchers have identified several arterial roads in Indonesia as accident-prone areas. Therefore, to improve the road user’s safety on primary arterial roads, it is necessary to develop models of the influence of various factors on road traffic accidents. This research uses binary logistic regression analysis. The independent variables are carelessness, disorderliness, high speed, horizontal alignment, road width, clear zone, road shoulder width, signs, markings, and land use. Meanwhile, the dependent variable is the frequency of accidents, where the frequency of accidents consists of multi-accident vehicles (MAV) and single-accident vehicles (SAV). This study collects data for a traffic accident prediction model based on collision frequency in accident-prone areas. The results, road shoulder width, and road sign factor all have an impact on the frequency of traffic accidents. According to a realistic risk analysis, MAV and SAV have no risk difference. After validation, this model shows a confidence level of 92%. This demonstrates that the model generates estimations that accurately reflect reality and are applicable to a wider population. This research has the potential to assist engineers in improving road safety on primary arterial roads. In addition, the model can help the government measure the impact of implemented policies and engage the public in traffic accident prevention efforts.

In Indonesia, traffic accidents occur on 23.55% of national roads and 75.08% of rural roads. The rural roads were identified as accident-prone areas. As a result, unsafe roads hinder population mobility, disrupt daily life, and reduce access to education, employment, and essential services, thereby affecting the well-being and development of rural communities. To identify the dominant factors that influence the frequency of collisions, a more thorough analysis of the multifactorial causes of traffic accidents in accident-prone areas is necessary. This study focused on analyzing the factors that contribute to road traffic accidents. Cross-tabulation was done using chi-square analysis. The chi-square test does not assume a normal distribution of data, which is beneficial when dealing with real-world data that may not follow normal distribution patterns. This flexibility makes it a robust choice for analyzing traffic accident data, which can be highly variable and not normally distributed. The results of the chi-square analysis for significance values below 0.05 indicate that there is a correlation between accident-causing factors (the independent variable) and collision frequency (the dependent variable). The results indicate that human factors, such as carelessness and high speed, as well as road and environmental factors, such as horizontal alignment, road width, clear zone, road signs, road markings, and land use, influence traffic accidents. Infrastructure factors such as horizontal alignment, road width, clear zones, shoulders, signs, and markings influence traffic accidents because they directly impact road user safety. Non-standard road geometry (horizontal alignment, road width, shoulder width, and clear zone) combined with incomplete road safety facilities (signs and markings) have the potential to cause traffic accidents. Therefore, harmonizing road geometry and equipment is necessary to improve arterial road safety, especially in accident-prone areas. Furthermore, speed management across a variety of land uses is required to reduce traffic accidents.

The Palembang-Jambi National road is located in the Musi Banyuasin Regency. The road section has a primary arterial function with a design speed of 60 km/hour. The Palembang-Jambi National road is a Sumatran highway that connects islands between provinces in Sumatra and Java. With such conditions, traffic problems arise in the form of traffic accidents. Therefore, to overcome these traffic problems, an analysis is needed to overcome these problems. The analytical method used in this research the macro analysis and microanalysis. Macro analysis was carried out to determine the general characteristics of accidents, and the tendency of traffic accidents to occur on the Palembang-Jambi KM 212 road section. Macro analysis used simple numerical analysis, namely analysis of the time of the accident, analysis based on the month of occurrence, analysis of accident victims, and analysis of the type of accident. The microanalysis consists of several analyzes consisting analysis based on accident chronology data, analysis of factors causing accidents, analysis of instantaneous speed, and analysis of stopping visibility. After doing this analysis, it can be concluded that the factors that cause accidents that often occur at KM 212 Palembang - Jambi National Road are infrastructure factors and human factors. The infrastructure factor is the main factor in the accidents that occur. So that this research is needed to overcome these problems such as additions, replacements, and maintenance of road equipment facilities to technical requirements. With this handling, it is to reduce the fatalities of crash severity and reduce the number of a traffiaccidentsnt on KM 212 the Palembang-Jambi National Road, Musi Banyuasin District.
